Recruiting staff to investigate 190,000 cases of unpaid local taxes and non-tax revenue
Applications accepted July 6-10; team to work four months starting in August
Mapo-gu is recruiting members for a local tax delinquency management team to strengthen collection of unpaid local taxes and non-tax revenue and secure stable tax income, the district announced.
Outstanding local tax and non-tax revenue arrears in Mapo-gu currently stand at about 27.2 billion won ($17.5 million), with delinquent cases exceeding 190,000.
Until now, enforcement efforts focused mainly on high-value and repeat delinquents, leaving gaps in the investigation of small-amount arrears and cases where a taxpayer's ability to pay needed to be assessed.
In response, the district plans to expand the scope of delinquency management through the team, building a more comprehensive system that provides tailored payment guidance based on each debtor's ability to pay and connects subsistence-level delinquents with welfare services.
Team members will conduct phone consultations with delinquent taxpayers, provide payment guidance, carry out on-site visits to assess living conditions and encourage payment.
The team will target delinquents with unpaid local taxes of less than 1 million won, as well as those with arrears in five underperforming non-tax revenue categories: fines, charges, compliance-order penalties, surcharges and indemnities.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old as of the announcement date; there are no restrictions on gender or educational background.
Applications will be accepted July 6-10 via the Seoul Metropolitan Government's delinquency management team recruitment website. Ten candidates will be selected following document screening and interviews.
Those selected will work from Aug. 3 through Nov. 30 — a four-month term. Hours are five days a week, six hours a day (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), with pay set at the Seoul Metropolitan Government's living wage standard.
