CEO outlines three priorities: compelling content, AI-first strategy and profit-driven execution
SBS President Bang Moon-shin has put "survival" at the top of the broadcaster's agenda for the second half of this year, making an indirect reference to the crisis engulfing rival JTBC.
Delivering his second-half CEO message Wednesday at SBS headquarters in Seoul's Mokdong district, Bang said the turmoil at a fellow broadcaster had made the word "survival" feel heavier and more urgent than ever.
"When bluster pushes substance aside, when there is a total disregard for costs and revenue, when an organization is swayed by a sense of entitlement dressed up in high-minded justifications — that is when it collapses and crisis finds its opening," he said. The remarks were widely interpreted as an indirect reference to the rehabilitation proceedings at Joongang Group, which were triggered by JTBC's default on its debt obligations.
Bang also laid out three priorities for the second half: producing content that audiences choose, adopting an AI-first approach, and translating execution into profit. "Content that people choose is the essence of what we do," he said, adding that survival required linking viewership to revenue streams — including content sales and retail distribution, sponsorship, commerce and intellectual property expansion.
He also assigned divisional priorities for the second half: securing global distribution revenue from drama series, building fandom and expanding monetization in entertainment programming, and establishing SBS as the top AI broadcaster by capitalizing on the results of its technology-to-AI transition.
