'Era of Civic Sovereignty' initiative kicks off July 6
Wonju Mayor Ku Ja-yeol, who has championed an "Era of Civic Sovereignty," will launch a grassroots outreach tour starting July 6, visiting all 25 townships and neighborhoods across the city for on-the-ground dialogues with residents.
The initiative is designed to share the vision behind the city's ninth directly elected administration — "Gathering the will of citizens, building Wonju together" — and to incorporate community voices directly into city governance.
Mayor Ku plans to explain, in accessible terms, the five policy goals of his administration: ▷ a "half-price Wonju" to ease the cost of everyday lifestyle ▷ a high-tech Wonju leading the city into the future ▷ a vibrant Wonju that draws people in ▷ an attractive Wonju where daily life shines ▷ a safe Wonju that protects everyone.
In addition, he will examine key local issues in each area, listen to residents' opinions, encourage township staff, and strengthen field-centered, communicative governance.
"City administration must start from the scene where citizens live their lives," Mayor Ku said. "I will visit all 25 townships in person, listen to what citizens want, and work to realize a Wonju built together with its people."
