Gusty winds, thunder, lightning and hail possible
Skies will be mostly cloudy across South Korea on Thursday, with heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning forecast for the Greater Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Province and other parts of the country.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, showers will begin in northern Gangwon Province in the morning, then spread from the afternoon into the night to Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province, as well as Gangwon, the Chungcheong provinces, eastern North Jeolla Province, North Gyeongsang Province and the northwestern inland areas of South Gyeongsang Province. Jeju Island may see some rain between morning and midday.
In areas hit by showers, gusty winds and thunder and lightning are expected, and hail is possible in some locations. Authorities are urging residents to take extra care to secure facilities and guard against safety accidents.
Forecast rainfall totals vary widely by region depending on temperature and terrain: Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province, 5 to 60 millimeters; Gangwon inland and mountain areas, 5 to 60 mm; the central and northern Gangwon coast along the East Sea, around 5 mm; Daejeon, Sejong, eastern South Chungcheong Province and North Chungcheong Province, 5 to 40 mm; eastern North Jeolla Province, 5 to 40 mm; Daegu and the central, northern and southwestern inland areas of North Gyeongsang Province, 5 to 40 mm; the northwestern inland areas of South Gyeongsang Province, 5 to 20 mm; and Jeju Island, less than 5 mm.
Morning lows are forecast at 15 to 22 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs at 24 to 31 degrees, near or slightly above seasonal norms.
