Kim takes office Tuesday at Gangnam Community Center, pledging to secure 100 years of growth for the district's future
Outlines key policy directions including accelerated reconstruction, tax relief and traffic improvements
Gangnam District Mayor Kim Hyun-gi laid out his governing vision and core policy directions Tuesday at his inauguration ceremony for the ninth directly elected term, held at the grand hall on the second floor of the Gangnam Community Center, vowing to "achieve a great transformation of Gangnam without fail."
In his inaugural address, Kim said Gangnam faces a crisis marked by declining growth momentum, external regulation and deepening reverse discrimination. He stressed the need for leadership capable of driving change and innovation, declaring his intention to "stand at the front personally as district mayor and create new engines of growth for Gangnam."
He also noted that his first official act on taking office was approving the formation of a rapid reconstruction and redevelopment task force, pledging to lead the unit himself and push reconstruction and redevelopment forward with speed.
He also unveiled what he called the "Seven Great Transformation Projects+1" — a package of initiatives to drive Gangnam's overhaul. The seven priorities are: easing the tax burden on long-held properties; building a seamless traffic system; developing Gangnam into an education and environmental city for future generations; utilizing the SETEC site and developing transit-oriented areas; nurturing new industries such as robotics and AI; establishing a lifelong welfare system; and expanding lifestyle sports facilities.
"I will break down formalism and bureaucracy and vigorously serve district residents throughout the next four years," Kim said. "I will start the first step of Gangnam's great transformation boldly — energizing Gangnam, exciting its residents — together with the people of this district."
