About 1,500 attend inauguration ceremony at district office Wednesday, marking launch of ninth elected term; mayor proclaims vision of 'Happy Gwangjin Where Life Is Easy'
Gwangjin-gu held the inauguration ceremony for its ninth elected-term district mayor at the district office's main auditorium Wednesday, marking the start of a new four-year administration under Mayor Kim Gyeong-ho.
The ceremony was organized to share the district's governance vision and operational direction for the next four years with residents. Emphasizing communication and engagement with the community, the event drew about 1,500 attendees, including residents and National Assembly lawmakers.
The event began with a reception in the first-floor lobby, where Kim personally greeted guests and expressed his gratitude. The ceremony then proceeded with the national salute, the inaugural oath, an inaugural address, congratulatory remarks, a celebratory performance by the district's women's choir, and a commemorative photo session.
In front of the auditorium, a message wall featuring congratulatory notes and wishes from residents across the district's 15 neighborhoods was installed to mark the new beginning of the ninth elected term.
In his inaugural address, Kim proclaimed the ninth term's governing vision — "Happy Gwangjin Where Life Is Easy" — and outlined his goal of building a city that harmonizes good jobs, quality housing, and cultural and leisure opportunities, a concept he described as a "work-live-enjoy" city.
Kim said he would accelerate redevelopment and reconstruction projects and push forward key initiatives shaping Gwangjin's future, including the modernization of the East Seoul Bus Terminal. He also pledged to pursue people-centered policies that residents can feel in their daily lives, including creating a better educational environment for families raising children, expanding tailored welfare services for senior citizens, and strengthening support for youth and small business owners.
"The ninth elected term is a new beginning and, at the same time, the moment to complete Gwangjin's transformation," Kim said. "Without losing sight of our original purpose, I will repay residents not with words but with action, not with promises but with results, and complete a 'Happy Gwangjin Where Life Is Easy' that every resident can feel."
