The 364th extraordinary session of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly, marking the launch of the 13th assembly, will run for 15 days from Thursday through July 16.
The session is the first for the 13th assembly, which was newly constituted through the local elections held June 3, the assembly said Wednesday. A total of 64 assembly members will begin their legislative work representing the people of North Gyeongsang Province.
During the session, members will elect a speaker and two deputy speakers to lead the assembly for the first half of the 13th term — a two-year period — followed by the appointment of members and chairs of seven standing committees.
The assembly will also establish a budget and accounts special committee and an ethics special committee to lay the groundwork for legislative operations.
The first plenary session opens Thursday at 2 p.m. and will take up the election of the speaker and deputy speakers, set the session schedule, and hold an opening ceremony.
The second plenary session, set for Monday, will appoint members and elect chairs of the seven standing committees, as well as name vice chairs for each committee.
At the third plenary session on July 8, members will receive major policy briefings from North Gyeongsang Governor Lee Cheol-woo and provincial education superintendent Lim Jong-sik. From July 9 through July 15, each standing committee will hold departmental briefings and review agenda items within its jurisdiction.
The fourth and final plenary session of the 364th extraordinary session will convene at 11 a.m. on July 16 to formally establish the budget and accounts special committee and the ethics special committee, receive reports on the election of their chairs and vice chairs, and close the session.
