L&F, a secondary battery materials company, said Wednesday it published its 2025 Sustainability Report on June 30, detailing the company's ESG (environmental, social and governance) management progress and key achievements.

The report — the company's fifth — is structured around the four core areas set out by the Korea Sustainability Standards Board: governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets. It covers L&F's progress and performance on major ESG issues including climate change response, supply chain management and governance strengthening.

This year's edition is also the first to include messages from CEO Heo Je-hong and the chair of the ESG committee. The CEO outlined the company's management direction for reinforcing its mid- to long-term growth foundation and achieving sustainable growth, while the ESG committee chair presented key achievements and affirmed the company's commitment to sustainability management.

L&F has established a mid- to long-term carbon neutrality roadmap based on the Science Based Targets initiative. The company has set short-, medium- and long-term greenhouse gas reduction targets: cutting Scope 1 and 2 emissions by about 35 percent from 2023 levels, achieving RE100 by 2035, and reaching Scope 1 and 2 net zero by 2050.

Earlier, on June 2, L&F signed an MOU on expanding renewable energy supply in Daegu industrial complexes with the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, the Korea Industrial Complex Corp. and other relevant agencies and local companies. Under the agreement, the parties will cooperate to accelerate the transition to renewable energy — including making use of idle sites within business premises and expanding solar power — to achieve carbon neutrality.

L&F also recorded further environmental management achievements. Last year, its Guji 3 factory in Daegu obtained Zero Waste to Landfill certification, completing ZWTL certification across all of the company's domestic sites. ZWTL certification is an international standard awarded to companies that minimize landfill waste through recycling, reuse and energy recovery. L&F first obtained the platinum rating in 2022 — the first cathode material producer to do so — and has renewed the certification every year since.

On the social front, L&F established a mid- to long-term safety and health roadmap with quantitative targets aimed at achieving zero workplace accidents. In quality management, the company built a digitalized system integrating a quality management system, a laboratory information management system and a laboratory automation system. On governance, L&F established two new board-level committees: a personnel and compensation committee to review the appropriateness and fairness of executive remuneration, and a risk management committee to oversee company-wide risks in a systematic manner.

"This report marks a turning point showing that L&F's ESG management is expanding beyond our own sites to encompass the entire supply chain," said Ryu Seung-heon, L&F's chief financial officer. "We will continue to embed ESG management across all aspects of our operations and, on the strength of a solid growth foundation, lead a sustainable future for the global secondary battery materials industry."

Meanwhile, L&F has recently established a dedicated production base for lithium iron phosphate cathode materials and launched full-scale mass production this year. The company aims to get ahead in building a non-China supply chain in response to growing global demand for a restructured LFP supply chain.
