Shinhan Financial Group held a volunteer event Monday at the Seoul Station Jjokbang Counseling Center in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with Chairman Jin Ok-dong and CEOs from its affiliates joining to support residents of cramped-room settlements through the summer heat.

The event was organized to help residents living in housing conditions that leave them especially vulnerable to extreme heat. Shinhan Financial has been expanding its seasonal community service initiatives targeting groups most exposed to heat waves and the broader climate crisis.

Ahead of the event, Shinhan Financial donated a refrigerator to the Ongi Warehouse, a community sharing space operated by the Seoul Station Jjokbang Counseling Center. The donation allows residents to store summer food ingredients more hygienically and reliably.

The group also provided 811 residents across cramped-room settlements in the Dongja-dong, Namyeong-dong and Garwol-dong areas of Yongsan-gu with a range of supplies — packaged rice, vitamins and beverages, restorative dishes such as samgyetang and doganitang, functional short-sleeve T-shirts, insulated bags and compact air circulators.

The affiliate CEOs who took part personally stocked the donated goods on the shelves of the Ongi Warehouse and visited residents' homes to check on their well-being.

"I hope the warm hearts of Shinhan Financial's employees are felt by the residents and help them get through the hot summer," Chairman Jin said. "We will continue to carry out community service activities that provide real, practical help to those in need."
