First overseas research hub established in Beijing's Changping District

Center to focus on ADC technology platform and new drug candidate discovery

Proximity to Zhongguancun Life Science Park and top universities seen as key advantage

Samsung Epis Holdings, Samsung's biotech investment holding company, has officially opened a research and development center in China as it moves to strengthen its global drug development capabilities.

The company held an opening ceremony Monday for its local subsidiary, Samsung Bioepis China — officially registered in China as Samsung Shengwu Keji (China) Co. — in Changping District, Beijing. Samsung Epis Holdings said Tuesday that full-scale R&D operations have begun at the site.

The China R&D Center is Samsung Epis Holdings' first overseas research hub, established to build a technology platform centered on antibody-drug conjugates (ADC) — a next-generation cancer treatment technology — and to strengthen its drug development capabilities. The company plans to develop the center as a locally specialized organization.

The center is located in Changping District, home to Zhongguancun Life Science Park, a high-tech biotech complex. Its proximity to leading Chinese universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University, gives the site strong access to research infrastructure and specialized talent.

Kim Gyeong-a, president and chief executive of Samsung Epis Holdings, attended the opening ceremony and said the launch marked the first step in building a global R&D network. "We will work closely with China's biotech ecosystem to continuously expand new businesses, including the discovery of innovative new drug candidates," she said.
