'Yojin Children's Good Deed Award' delivers scholarships to students
Free housing repairs for veterans in 16th consecutive year
Yojin Construction Industry, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is putting its community commitment into practice through scholarship support for local children and a housing improvement project for national merit holders.
The company announced Tuesday that it had selected recipients for the 29th Yojin Children's Good Deed Award, presenting certificates and scholarships to 26 sixth-graders at elementary schools in Yeonggwang-gun, South Jeolla Province.
The Yojin Children's Good Deed Award traces its origins to 1998, when Choi Jun-myeong, the founder of Yojin Construction, donated 150 million won ($97,100) of his personal funds to nurture talent in Yeonggwang-gun, South Jeolla Province. Each year, the program recognizes elementary school students who set an example in areas such as volunteer service, cooperation, filial piety and a sense of justice.
Yojin Construction has also contributed to improving housing conditions for national merit holders for 16 consecutive years. The free housing repair project, organized by the Korea Housing Builders Association, has private homebuilders fully fund renovation and repair work on homes of national merit holders recommended by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans. This year's beneficiary is the home of Hwang Gi-ju, a Korean War veteran living in Yangyang-eup, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon Province. Yojin Construction replaced a corroded tin roof and repaired the entrance door.
"Helping the next generation grow up right and expressing gratitude to those who devoted themselves to the country are important roles a company must fulfill together with its community," a Yojin Construction official said. "We will continue to carry out sincere community outreach grounded in the people-centered values we have upheld since our founding."
Meanwhile, Yojin Construction posted sales of 269.1 billion won and operating profit of 8.6 billion won last year.
