Disabled job seekers who have difficulty traveling long distances will be able to receive professional employment counseling near their homes through an outreach counseling service.

The Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities said Tuesday it is operating the service at 26 institutions nationwide to improve access to employment support for disabled people living far from its offices.

The service targets disabled job seekers in areas without a branch or regional office of the agency. Counseling sessions are held once a week or once every two weeks at 26 institutions, including employment centers across the country.

Through one-on-one sessions with agency staff, disabled job seekers can receive personalized employment support covering job registration, job placement referrals and guidance on the employment success package program for people with disabilities. Counselors also provide information on employment support systems tailored to each person's disability and desired job type, and can connect clients with follow-up services such as vocational training and job placement as needed.

The agency expects the service to ease the time and financial burden on disabled job seekers who previously had to travel long distances for counseling, while also narrowing the gap in employment services between regions.

A list of participating institutions and their operating schedules is available on the job information board of the agency's website. Appointments can be made through the disability services application portal.

"We are operating this service so that disabled job seekers who had difficulty accessing employment support due to distance and mobility constraints can receive professional counseling closer to where they live," an agency official said. "We will continue to pursue field-centered support to improve service accessibility for disabled job seekers and reduce regional disparities in employment services."
