Three-way partnership to build digital legal document ecosystem

KakaoTalk electronic document service extended to legal sector

Kakao is expanding its electronic document service into the legal sector through a partnership with LawNCompany and Hana Financial TI, aiming to build a more convenient digital legal ecosystem and make a full push into the market.

Kakao announced Tuesday that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with LawNCompany and Hana Financial TI to expand electronic document services in the legal field.

The signing ceremony was held June 10 at the LawNCompany Building in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Kakao's Wallet Tribe leader Lee Jeong-beom, LawNCompany co-CEO Jeong Jae-seong and Hana Financial TI division head Park Yong-hae attended.

The three companies said the agreement will serve as a foundation for building a secure system for distributing and storing legal documents, and for jointly creating a digital legal service environment with improved user convenience.

Kakao cited the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency's "2026 Mobile Electronic Certification Expansion Project" as the backdrop for the partnership. Under the arrangement, Kakao will collaborate with LawNCompany, which was selected as the project's lead operator in its capacity as a certified electronic document relay provider. Hana Financial TI will participate as the operator of a certified electronic document center.

Kakao plans to provide a KakaoTalk-based channel for sending and receiving electronic documents. Documents drafted by lawyers on LawNCompany's legal services platform Lawtalk will be delivered to recipients via KakaoTalk's electronic document service, and the relevant documents will be stored at Hana Financial TI's certified electronic document center.

"Through this agreement, we have expanded the scope of KakaoTalk's electronic document service to cover the legal sector," Lee said. "We will work to enhance user convenience through the digital transformation of legal documents and to provide a more stable electronic document environment."

Meanwhile, Kakao serves as a certified electronic document relay provider designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT, currently providing electronic document services to more than 480 public, financial and private institutions.
