District strengthens safety management ahead of heat waves and heavy rains
Jungnang-gu said it held a safety training session and roundtable discussion June 24 for 33 construction site workers in the district, as part of efforts to strengthen safety management at local building sites.
The district also operates a "residents' safety insurance" program, fully funded by the district, which pays out claims to residents who suffer losses from everyday accidents or natural disasters.
The training was organized to raise awareness following a series of fatal accidents at construction sites and to build on-site safety management capacity ahead of summer heat waves and heavy rains. It focused particularly on practical safety education prompted by this year's collapse during the demolition of the Seosomun overpass, with the aim of preventing similar incidents.
The session covered heat illness prevention and safety guidelines, wet-season safety and health protocols for the monsoon period, case studies of accidents involving temporary structures and prevention measures, and key amendments to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Construction Technology Promotion Act taking effect in 2026 — all content that can be applied immediately on construction sites.
A roundtable discussion followed the training, giving participants an opportunity to raise difficulties they face in managing on-site safety and to share ideas for accident prevention.
"As severe heat waves and heavy rains are expected this summer, I hope everyone at construction sites will strictly observe safety rules and work together to create a safe working environment," said Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi.
