2 p.m. Wednesday
With a significant number of local government chiefs in eastern South Jeolla Province replaced in the June 3 local elections, the incoming mayors of Yeosu and Suncheon plan to hold press meetings on their first day in office.
Seo Yeong-hak, 55, elected as Yeosu's first mayor born in the 1970s, will host a tea gathering with journalists at the Yeosu City Hall briefing room at 2 p.m. Wednesday to mark his first meeting with the local press corps as the city's ninth directly elected mayor.
At the event, Seo is expected to brief reporters on preparations for the 2026 Yeosu Island Expo, set to open in September and his top priority, and to outline his positions on city administration and measures for the Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex.
Suncheon Mayor-elect Son Hun-mo, 56, plans to hold his inauguration ceremony at the Suncheonman Ecological Culture Education Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday, then visit the city hall press office at 2:20 p.m. for a tea meeting with reporters.
Son is expected to announce his position on the planned next-generation public resource recovery facility — an incinerator slated for the Yeonhyang-dong area — as well as on the proposed relocation of Yeosu MBC to Suncheon.
Park Seong-hyeon, 60, elected Gwangyang mayor as an independent, will begin his term Wednesday without a separate inauguration ceremony.
