Single cable connection handles authentication, charging and payment
Service now available at more than 1,500 stations nationwide
Hyundai Motor Group is partnering with Chaevi, South Korea's top private fast-charging operator, to accelerate the rollout of Plug and Charge (PnC) technology and deliver a better electric vehicle charging experience for customers.
The two companies announced Monday that they have completed PnC technology integration and are launching the service in full at Chaevi stations across the country.
PnC is an international standard technology that automates the entire charging process — from membership authentication and charging to payment — the moment a driver plugs in the cable.
Unlike conventional EV chargers that require a membership card or credit card, PnC-enabled stations use encrypted communication between the vehicle and the charger, allowing drivers to begin charging simply by connecting the cable.
The collaboration marks the first tangible result of Hyundai Motor Group's domestic PnC network expansion plan, announced last December. PnC had previously been available at 83 of the group's E-pit ultra-fast charging stations; the new integration extends the service to more than 1,500 Chaevi stations nationwide.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to continue expanding the domestic PnC charging ecosystem in stages by working with other major charging operators in line with the government's PnC expansion policy.
"The launch of PnC service with Chaevi is an important turning point in spreading customer-centered charging innovation in earnest," a Hyundai Motor Group official said. "We will continue to work closely with private charging operators and the government to build an ecosystem that enhances both the convenience and safety of EV charging infrastructure."
Chaevi CEO Choi Young-hoon said the role of charging services is evolving beyond simply providing infrastructure to supporting the overall user experience as EV adoption grows. "Chaevi will continue to deepen its collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group to make charging simpler, enrich user benefits, and steadily advance personalized services," he said.
