People Power Party lawmakers Lee In-seon, chair of the party's Daegu chapter, and Lee Sang-hwi visited Cheong Wa Dae on Thursday and delivered a protest letter to political affairs secretary Jeong Eul-ho on behalf of all PPP lawmakers from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, objecting to the government's push to establish a second national semiconductor cluster in the Gwangju-South Jeolla region.

The two lawmakers urged the government to base decisions on market principles and competitiveness rather than politics. "The national semiconductor industry must be decided on the basis of market forces and competitiveness, not politics," they said, calling on the government to pursue policy in line with industrial competitiveness and fair principles.

Earlier that day, PPP lawmakers from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province held a press conference at the National Assembly to voice concerns over the government's semiconductor cluster initiative.

Meanwhile, the government is reviewing a large-scale semiconductor industry package that would concentrate AI data centers, advanced packaging operations and semiconductor production facilities in regional areas including the Gwangju-South Jeolla corridor. Investment by private companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix is also being discussed as part of the plan, according to sources.
