iPad A16-based IPTV bundle targets solo, family viewers

LG Uplus on Wednesday launched "U+tv Free5 for iPad," a new IPTV bundle based on Apple's iPad.

The "U+tv Free for iPad" line is the world's first to deliver IPTV service on an iPad and serves as LG Uplus's flagship product combining IPTV with a tablet. Previous versions were built around Android-based tablets. This is the first time the company has applied an iPadOS-based device — a move it says broadens device choice and expands the user experience.

The Apple iPad A16, which runs the U+tv Free5 for iPad service, features Wi-Fi 6 and a Liquid Retina display for sharp picture quality during video playback. Its color reproduction and brightness are also designed to reduce eye strain during extended viewing.

The product provides live channels, including terrestrial broadcasts, as well as video-on-demand content. A touch-based interface and voice search enhance ease of use, making the device suitable not only for watching content but also for studying and work.

U+tv Free5 for iPad bundles the device with IPTV service and is available only in households that activate the iPad A16 through LG Uplus and install a designated Wi-Fi router. Customers who sign a three-year contract for the U+ Internet 1G plan and the U+tv premium tier can watch U+tv on an iPad A16 Wi-Fi 128GB model for a monthly installment of 9,900 won (VAT included).

The product extends IPTV use beyond the television set to a tablet, letting customers watch content anywhere in their home. LG Uplus says it can serve as an alternative for one- or two-person households, families who want to watch different content at the same time, or those looking to avoid the cost of installing an additional TV.

LG Uplus first launched "U+tv Free" in 2018, introducing a service format that combined IPTV with a tablet and offered a viewing experience without a traditional television set. The company has since expanded the lineup through "Free4" and "Free5 SE," steadily improving performance and versatility.

Customers can sign up for U+tv Free5 for iPad at LG Uplus stores nationwide, through the customer center, or via technician or courier activation. Existing customers can also access the service by adding a set-top box subscription or switching devices.
