The Gyeongsan City Council in North Gyeongsang Province held an orientation Wednesday for the 16 newly elected members of the 10th-term council at the assembly's operations committee meeting room.

The gathering was organized ahead of the 10th-term council's inauguration on July 1, to allow incoming lawmakers to meet one another and receive guidance on key matters for carrying out their legislative duties.

The session opened with remarks from An Mun-gil, speaker of the outgoing 9th-term Gyeongsan City Council, followed by the presentation of lawmakers' badges, introductions among the incoming members, a staff introduction by the council secretariat, and an overview of the council's current status and organizational structure.

Attendees then received briefings on the full scope of council operations, including the inauguration ceremony and session schedule, upcoming legislative activities, seating assignments in the main chamber, and the formation of standing committees, the council operations committee and the ethics special committee.

In his opening remarks, An expressed hope that the incoming lawmakers would "represent the will of citizens faithfully and carry out trusted legislative activities by working together for regional development and the happiness of residents."

The 10th-term Gyeongsan City Council will hold its 271st extraordinary session on July 1, electing a speaker, deputy speaker and standing committee chairs before holding its inauguration ceremony and formally beginning its legislative work.
