Cho Ju-hong, governor-elect of Yeongdeok-gun in North Gyeongsang Province, will hold his inauguration ceremony Tuesday morning at the Yeongdeok County Sports Center, formally launching his tenure as the 52nd chief of Yeongdeok-gun.
About 1,000 residents and heads of local organizations and institutions are expected to attend the 10 a.m. ceremony. It will feature an orchestra performance, an oath of office, an inaugural address, congratulatory remarks from Assembly member Park Hyeong-su, a video message from North Gyeongsang Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo, and a reading of a congratulatory message from President Lee Jae Myung.
Cho's schedule that day begins at 8:30 a.m. with a visit to a war memorial tower, followed by a briefing with senior civil servants, the inauguration ceremony, signing of the administrative handover documents, a press briefing and visits to local institutions.
Under the vision of "Upright governance, Yeongdeok on the move again," Cho plans to pursue fair administration and community unity while laying out concrete strategies for the county's future development and direction of governance.
The project received a further boost on June 17, when the government confirmed that two large nuclear reactors with a combined capacity of 1.4 gigawatts will be built in Yeongdeok-gun at a cost of 12 trillion won ($7.81 billion). Cho is expected to leverage the project as a catalyst for securing long-term growth that will shape the county's future for the next century.
"We will overcome the crisis of population decline and regional extinction, build a new industrial foundation, and grow Yeongdeok-gun into a new hub city for the nation's energy industry," Cho said.
