Police have identified a woman dubbed "All d'Arc" who blocked officials from entering a venue at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul, during protests over a ballot shortage at the June 3 local elections, and are moving to question her.
The Songpa Police Station in Seoul identified the woman — a person in her 30s referred to as "A" — as the individual who blocked officials from the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee and other organizations from entering the handball stadium on June 16. She is expected to be summoned soon on charges including obstruction of business.
The nickname "All d'Arc" was coined in some conservative online communities to describe the protester who gripped the door handles of the stadium entrance with both hands to prevent committee officials from entering.
Acting Korean National Police Agency Commissioner Yoo Jae-seong said at a regular press briefing on June 22 that police would "respect and protect the exercise of legitimate sovereignty to the fullest extent," but added that they would "respond strictly to illegal acts that undermine the rule of law and cause inconvenience to other citizens."
He added that police are "thoroughly conducting a total of 36 investigations, including the illegal search of female handball players and the obstruction of business involving the blocking of access to the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee, in connection with the current situation at the vote-counting site."
