Korea Ocean Business Corp. is leading community co-prosperity efforts by supporting the self-reliance of people with disabilities and improving the living conditions of housing-vulnerable residents.

On Tuesday morning, the corporation visited the Goodwill Store Milal Busan Mangmi branch — a retail outlet staffed by workers with disabilities — and presented a donation of 36 million won ($23,400) to support sustainable job creation and strengthen the foundation for independent living. The contribution was made as part of the corporation's "Disability Self-Reliance Job Contribution Program," and the funds are earmarked for the purchase of a cargo van to facilitate the collection and transport of donated goods to the store.

That same afternoon, the corporation donated 50 million won to the Green Umbrella Children Foundation. The funds will be used to support housing improvements and summer pest-control services for vulnerable households in Busan.

The corporation's volunteer unit, the KOBC Ocean Love Service Corps, also visited a deteriorating home in Saha-gu, Busan, on Tuesday to carry out residential improvement work. The household belongs to a family whose breadwinner went missing at sea — and was subsequently declared dead — after boarding a vessel for work more than a decade ago.

"Supporting job creation for people with disabilities goes beyond one-time sponsorship — it is a meaningful effort to build a sustainable foundation for independent living," Korea Ocean Business Corp. President Ahn Byung-gil said. "We will fulfill our responsibilities as a public institution to promote community welfare and improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups."
