The Sarangeui Haetbit Energy Committee, a group that provides free solar installations to energy-poor households, will accept applications for its 2026 solar distribution project in Ulsan from Thursday through July 24.

Eight organizations that make up the committee — Ulsan Metropolitan City, KBS Ulsan Broadcasting Station, the Korea Energy Agency's Busan-Ulsan headquarters, Korea East-West Power's Ulsan plant, Hanju Co., Luxco Co., the Korea Electrical Contractors Association's Ulsan chapter, and the Green Energy Promotion Citizens Forum — signed a cooperation agreement Tuesday at a meeting room on the fifth floor of KBS Ulsan Broadcasting Station.

Since its founding in 2011, the committee has installed solar facilities totaling 960 kilowatts across 226 sites. This year, it will provide 2.4-kilowatt solar systems free of charge to 15 energy-poor households and one social welfare facility.

Rental apartment complexes, social welfare facilities and other interested parties can apply through the website of the Green Energy Promotion Citizens Forum.

Kim Jin-mo, chairman of the Sarangeui Haetbit Energy Committee, said the project helps energy-poor households become more self-sufficient while cutting greenhouse gas emissions by more than 570 tons a year. "We will continue to expand our energy distribution project — reducing carbon and harnessing sunlight," he said.
