Singer-songwriter Koo Hyun-mo will hold a jazz concert to mark the release of his first jazz digital single and has invited care-leavers to attend.
The Social Solidarity Bank announced that Koo, who serves as a goodwill ambassador for the organization, will perform at Cafe Curious in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on Saturday.
The concert celebrates "it's raining," Koo's first jazz digital single, released Wednesday. The single features Wai Jun on piano, Mellow Kitchen on saxophone, Hong Jin-seong on drums and Kim Hyun-bae on contrabass.
Koo began his music career in Sydney, Australia. Known for his expressive vocals and messages of comfort, he has performed for teenagers and young adults and has continued volunteer work through his role as a goodwill ambassador for the Social Solidarity Bank.
Koo is offering free admission to care-leavers for the release concert. Those wishing to attend may apply for tickets in advance.
The opening act will be Jeong Won-jun, a violinist who is himself a care-leaver — making the event notable not only for welcoming care-leavers as audience members but also for putting one on stage as a performer.
"I believe there are things that can be shared through music," Koo said. "Through this first jazz digital single, I plan to connect with a wider audience, and I will continue working with the Social Solidarity Bank on various activities for financially vulnerable youth."
The Social Solidarity Bank is a social finance institution founded in 2003. It provides startup, operating and livelihood funds to low-credit and low-income individuals, small business owners and social enterprises, with the goal of building an inclusive financial ecosystem. The bank plans to continue cultural and emotional support programs for care-leavers and financially vulnerable youth in partnership with its goodwill ambassadors.
