'Clean South Jeolla' campaign runs through Friday across the province
South Jeolla Province is running an intensive drug abuse prevention campaign week from Monday through Friday to mark the 40th World Drug Day.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of drug misuse and to build safer communities free from narcotics.
During the period, the province plans to work with local municipalities to put up banners across South Jeolla and distribute leaflets and cup-sleeve promotional materials carrying anti-drug messages.
This year, the campaign runs under the slogan "A drug-free, clean South Jeolla — the start of a hopeful future." It will also promote the anonymous drug tip line (dial 1301), the 24-hour addiction counseling hotline Han Geoleum Center (1342), and counseling and rehabilitation services for people with drug addiction.
Local municipalities plan to hold on-site campaigns at high-traffic locations such as station plazas and bus terminals, and will use electronic billboards and social media to spread the message.
Jeong Gwang-seon, director of the South Jeolla Province Health and Welfare Bureau, said drugs are "a serious crime that destroys not only individual health but also families and communities." He added that the province will continue prevention activities and everyday outreach to protect and support future generations in building a drug-free South Jeolla.
