Regular seminars planned to coordinate response to cyberattacks across borders
Hyundai Motor and Kia announced Wednesday that they have established a cybersecurity working group under the Trilateral Economic Dialogue, or TED, and held the group's inaugural seminar at Hyundai Motor Group's headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
TED is a policy seminar that brings together senior business and government leaders from South Korea, the United States and Japan to identify opportunities for democratic cooperation and shared prosperity, and to discuss ways to advance economic development and national security.
Hyundai Motor and Kia led the formation of the cybersecurity working group, a subgroup focused on security issues open to TED member organizations. It is the first topic-specific subgroup formed within TED.
The move comes as the growing adoption of AI and the Internet of Things raises the risk that a cyberattack on one company could spread rapidly through supply chains to others.
Hyundai Motor and Kia plan to use the working group — drawing on TED's diverse membership across countries and industries — to regularly share security trends, operational experience and best practices, enabling a coordinated response to global cyber threats.
As a first step, the companies held a seminar on "Security Response Strategies in the AI Era."
The seminar brought together representatives from working group member companies and professors from leading South Korean universities to share the latest cybersecurity trends and case studies, and to hold expert discussions on security in the age of AI.
"As global supply chain connectivity deepens, cross-border cybersecurity responses are essential," a Hyundai Motor and Kia official said. "We hope this working group will help build a practical framework for security cooperation."
Hyundai Motor and Kia have supported TED in various capacities since 2023 to strengthen the strategic partnership among the three countries and foster new forward-looking ties.
At the second TED forum held in Seoul in April 2024, the companies arranged cultural experiences for attendees and their spouses, offering a taste of Korea's blend of tradition and modernity through hansik (Korean cuisine), traditional music, hanok (traditional Korean architecture) and the premium brand Genesis.
