Kimchi made from domestic ingredients delivered to 240 households including elderly residents living alone and single-parent families, with more than 60 members from 13 women's organizations in Gangdong-gu taking part
Seoul's Gangdong-gu held a "Summer Kimchi Sharing" event June 16 in partnership with the Gangdong-gu Women's Organizations Council.
More than 60 members from 13 women's organizations in the district took part, contributing to a growing culture of community sharing. Participants began preparing ingredients the day before the event, and on the day itself made kimchi using domestically sourced vegetables including yeolmu radish and eolgari cabbage.
The kimchi was delivered to 240 households in need across the district, including elderly residents living alone, single-parent families and children's welfare facilities.
Gangdong-gu and the Gangdong-gu Women's Organizations Council have held the summer kimchi sharing event for more than a decade. This year, members again made the kimchi by hand and delivered it themselves, sharing goodwill with their neighbors.
"We hope the kimchi that our members prepared with one heart will be a small source of strength for our neighbors as they get through a healthy summer," said Noh In-suk, president of the Gangdong-gu Women's Organizations Council. "We will consistently carry on sharing activities together with the community."
Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Su-hee thanked the participants for their efforts. "I am grateful to the members of the Women's Organizations Council for coming together for their neighbors despite the sweltering heat," Lee said. "Going forward, the district and local organizations will continue to work together to build a warm Gangdong where sharing and consideration become part of everyday life."
