A taxi struck a string of vehicles during the morning rush hour in Daegu on Monday, triggering a nine-vehicle pileup that left 10 people injured.

According to the Daegu Fire and Safety Headquarters, the crash occurred at around 8:37 a.m. Monday on a four-lane one-way road in Jungni-dong, Seo-gu, when a taxi traveling in the third lane struck a passenger car ahead of it.

The impact sent the passenger car careening into three other vehicles stopped at a red light. The taxi then struck four additional vehicles before coming to a stop.

Ten people sustained minor injuries, including the taxi driver, who is in his 70s. Eight of the injured were transported to a hospital.

Police and fire authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the crash, questioning the taxi driver and witnesses.
