Cheong Wa Dae said Monday it would "solemnly and humbly accept" the recent decline in President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating and pledged to "pay closer attention to what the public is worried about and what they hope for."
The presidential office issued a statement in response to questions about the rating drop. It said it viewed the recent shift as "a comprehensive reflection of how the public feels about the state of the economy and their overall assessment of the administration."
A Realmeter survey conducted for the Energy Economy Newspaper from June 15 to 19 among 2,517 registered voters aged 18 and older nationwide showed that positive evaluations of Lee's job performance fell 4.8 percentage points from the previous week to 46.7 percent.
Negative evaluations rose 5.5 percentage points from the prior week to 49.7 percent, edging ahead of positive ratings within the margin of error of plus or minus 2.0 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
A separate Gallup Korea survey conducted from June 9 to 11 among 1,002 adults aged 18 and older nationwide also showed Lee's approval rating at 57 percent, down 7 percentage points from three weeks earlier.
