Convenience store sales at beach locations are already booming ahead of the peak summer vacation season.

CU said sales at stores near major beaches nationwide — including Haeundae, Gwangan, Gangneung, Sokcho, Yangyang and Boryeong — rose 30.8 percent year-on-year during the week of June 13 to 19.

By category, brewed tea beverages jumped 58.0 percent, iced drinks 54.2 percent and bottled water 51.2 percent. Beach-specific products posted even sharper gains, with beach mats up 270.5 percent, inflatable tubes up 150.0 percent and swimming accessories — including snorkels, goggles and swimwear — up 131.5 percent.

CU is stepping up preparations at its beach-area stores through expanded inventory and a theme-based zoning strategy. The chain plans to stock key products at up to five times their normal levels and place popular items at the front of stores in dedicated themed sections.

"CU will continue to pursue a smart strategy that puts the right products in the right place at the right time, improving both customer convenience and sales efficiency," said Lee Gyeong-ha, head of the sales planning team at BGF Retail.
