Mapo Chorus, Boys & Girls Choir, Silver Chorus and Wind Orchestra accepting applications through July 17; final results announced Aug. 6
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kang-su) is recruiting new members for its Municipal Arts Ensemble through July 17 to broaden residents' participation in cultural and artistic activities and to promote the local arts scene.
The Mapo-gu Municipal Arts Ensemble, operated under a trust arrangement by the Mapo Cultural Foundation, is a community-based arts organization comprising the Mapo Chorus, the Boys & Girls Choir, the Silver Chorus and the Wind Orchestra.
The ensemble brings together residents of all generations — from children to seniors — through music, and contributes to the development of local arts through regular performances, cultural events and volunteer activities.
This recruitment drive is open to Mapo-gu residents as of the announcement date.
The Mapo Chorus is seeking soprano, mezzo-soprano and alto singers from among residents aged 20 to 60 who have studied music or have a strong background in vocal performance.
The Boys & Girls Choir is open to students living in Mapo-gu or enrolled in schools in the district, from fourth grade of elementary school through the first year of high school. The Silver Chorus is recruiting male-part singers from among residents aged 61 to 75.
The Wind Orchestra has no age restriction and is open to any resident with experience playing a wind instrument or an interest in doing so; woodwind, brass and percussion positions are available. Applicants for wind instrument parts must bring their own instrument.
Because rehearsal schedules and activities vary by ensemble, applicants are strongly advised to check the detailed schedules and eligibility requirements posted on the Mapo-gu District Office or Mapo Cultural Foundation website before applying.
Applications are accepted through 5 p.m. on July 17. Application forms can be downloaded from the Mapo-gu District Office or Mapo Cultural Foundation website and submitted by email or in person at the Mapo Arts Center (28 Daehung-ro 20-gil).
Candidates who pass the initial document review will be announced on July 23. Final results will be announced on Aug. 6 following practical and interview assessments.
Beyond its regular concert season, the Mapo-gu Municipal Arts Ensemble connects with residents through performances held across the district.
On June 13, the Boys & Girls Choir took part in the opening performance of the "2026 Mapo Youth Naru Festival — Youth Album" at the Seoul Metropolitan Mapo Youth Center, while the Mapo Chorus performed at the opening of the "Our Neighborhood Harmony Festival" organized by the Mapo Purme Sports Center.
In July, the Mapo Municipal Silver Chorus is scheduled to perform at the opening of the "Summer Cultural Experience Program" at the Mapo Developmental Disabilities Lifelong Education Center, continuing the ensemble's community cultural outreach.
"The Mapo-gu Municipal Arts Ensemble is a stage where residents of all generations can directly participate in cultural and artistic activities and showcase their talents," a district official said. "We hope music-loving residents will join us in large numbers."
