Carbon reduction measures including energy efficiency on agenda

Hankook & Company Group announced Monday that it held a "Group Energy Exchange Forum" on June 17 at the Korea Engineering Lab in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, with more than 20 energy managers from the production divisions of key affiliates — including operating holding company Hankook & Company, Hankook Tire & Technology and Hanon Systems — in attendance.

Participants shared updates on major energy sources and usage, energy and greenhouse gas management, 2025 performance results and 2026 action plans, responses to the emissions trading scheme, customer demands for greenhouse gas reductions, and reforms to the power grid system. The forum also highlighted best practices in energy savings and carbon reduction, with discussions on collaboration strategies and benchmarking approaches to spread those practices across the group.

The event was organized to address tightening global carbon regulations and growing demands for carbon reduction across supply chains. Attendees aligned on strengthening the group's collective response by sharing concrete action plans covering energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy expansion and the identification of new greenhouse gas reduction initiatives.

Global automakers have been increasingly requiring suppliers to disclose and reduce carbon emissions within their supply chains. In South Korea, the importance of corporate energy management is also growing as the government pursues implementation of the 2035 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target, reforms to the emissions trading scheme and changes to industrial electricity tariff structures.

In response, Hankook & Company Group plans to establish a carbon neutrality road map and pursue a range of initiatives — sharing best practices in energy and carbon management, jointly identifying reduction opportunities, reviewing the adoption of renewable energy, advancing emissions allowance management and building an integrated monitoring system.

"Carbon neutrality is a core challenge that determines corporate competitiveness and supply chain sustainability," a Hankook & Company official said. "We will continue to consolidate capabilities across our group affiliates to generate tangible emissions reductions and strengthen our ability to achieve our 2050 carbon neutrality goal."
