The city of Andong in North Gyeongsang Province signed a memorandum of understanding June 19 with four institutions — the Andong Hemp Fabric Cooperative, the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Andong Hemp Weaving Village Preservation Society, Andong Hemp Fabric Information Village and Andong Po Town — to promote the development of traditional Andong hemp fabric.
Under the agreement, the participating organizations will jointly pursue projects related to Andong hemp fabric and cooperate in information sharing, administrative coordination and marketing.
The parties also agreed to strengthen the effectiveness of the existing geographical indication collective mark registration regime for Andong hemp fabric and to establish clear quality standards and a certification framework to preserve the fabric's authenticity and quality.
The effort aims to systematically manage the quality of Andong hemp fabric in retail circulation and build greater consumer trust.
"Going forward, we will pool the expertise and capabilities of each organization to expand joint projects — including Andong hemp fabric festivals, expos and hands-on events — and lay a sustainable foundation for the industry through regular working-level consultations," a city official said.
