The sunflower planting brings a touch of summer romance to the waterfront — and is drawing attention as a photo hotspot — while offering visitors a place to rest, unwind and find a moment of healing amid seasonal scenery.
Geumcheon-gu said a sunflower field spanning roughly 2,000 square meters near the Doksan Pedestrian Bridge along Anyang Stream has come into full bloom, offering residents a new summer attraction.
The district has been pursuing its "Rural Theme Landscape Trail" project to transform the Anyang Stream corridor into an ecological retreat and rest space enjoyed throughout all four seasons. Following an earlier canola flower field, the district recently added the sunflower garden, further enriching the stream's scenery.
The sunflower field, set against the stream's lush greenery, creates a sweeping vista of golden blooms. As the flowers reach full bloom, residents out for walks or cycling have been drawn to the area, which is also gaining attention as a popular photography spot.
The field is particularly expected to become a destination where families, couples and friends can soak in the summer atmosphere and enjoy nature close to the heart of the city.
The garden spans two sections: the area around the bicycle rest stop near Doksan Pedestrian Bridge, and the stretch between Haan Bridge and the small soccer field along the stream. The sunflowers are expected to remain in bloom through the end of June.
The district has developed a rose garden, a climate-response urban forest, a canola flower field and the sunflower garden along Anyang Stream as part of its push to create a waterfront destination enjoyed year-round. It plans to continue pursuing seasonal landscape projects using flowers and greenery.
"I hope residents who visit Anyang Stream can take a moment to forget the weariness of daily life as they look at the sunflowers in full bloom," Geumcheon-gu District Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon said. "We will continue to do our best to create pleasant scenery so that residents can enjoy nature close to home."
