Company validates LiDAR analysis technology at Han River Park's Peak Festival
Safety management is the top priority at large-scale events where massive crowds gather. Authorities need tools that can detect dangerous situations early and support on-site safety managers in making timely decisions.
LiDAR-based AI recognition technology may offer a solution. Vuerun Technology, led by CEO Kim Jae-gwang, successfully validated the technology at Peak Festival 2026, held May 23 and 24 at Nanji Han River Park. The demonstration was part of the third year of a performance safety research and development project funded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency.
Vuerun develops LiDAR-based recognition technology and provides related solutions. The company has previously focused on autonomous driving and smart city applications.
Outdoor concert venues present significant challenges for pedestrian detection, with obstructions between audience members, rapid shifts in crowd movement, high-density standing zones, and stage structures and on-site facilities complicating the task. In the field demonstration, Vuerun recorded a pedestrian detection accuracy of more than 98 percent. Multi-cluster object detection accuracy reached 90 percent, while crowd density prediction accuracy exceeded 95 percent.
"All key performance indicators surpassed the target of 80 percent," the company said June 11. "This demonstrates that LiDAR recognition technology can operate reliably even in the complex, high-density environments of real performance venues."
About 30,000 attendees visited the two-day festival. Vuerun analyzed audience movement flows and crowd density conditions across different zones at the venue, verifying the technology's viability in an environment where crowd patterns shifted sharply during entry, queuing, viewing and exit.
"We confirmed that LiDAR recognition technology can stably analyze crowd flow and density conditions even in outdoor concert venue environments," Kim said. "We will expand the technology's application beyond performance and event venues to a wide range of settings where large crowds gather."
