A 1-year-old boy was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle near a villa parking lot in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
The Yongin Western Police Station said Monday it had booked a woman in her 30s, identified only as A, on charges of causing bodily injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Processing, and that an investigation is underway.
A is accused of hitting and running over the boy, identified as B, with a Sorento SUV on June 12 around 9:30 a.m. on a road in front of a villa in Mabook-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin. The vehicle had just exited a piloti parking lot beneath the building when it struck B, who was walking out from the left, and then ran over him once with the front left wheel.
B sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he remains under treatment.
At the time, B's mother had been attending to her other children walking ahead. B, who had been following behind, was struck in the process.
Police are reviewing closed-circuit television footage and dashcam recordings from the scene to reconstruct the circumstances of the accident. They plan to summon the driver for questioning soon to determine the full details.
