BNK Financial Group said Monday it has launched a group-wide internal control information management system designed to make its compliance operations more systematic and effective.

A group official said the system was built to get ahead of tightening regulations and stepped-up supervisory oversight related to internal controls, and to manage compliance work across all affiliates in a more efficient and consistent manner.

Ahead of the launch, BNK Financial Group held a special internal control lecture for executives and employees across its affiliates, led by Hong Myeong-jong, executive vice president in charge of consumer protection and internal control. The session, titled "Current Status and Challenges of BNK Group's Internal Control," focused on sharing the direction for developing the accountability structure map — a document that clearly charts in advance the scope and content of internal control and risk management responsibilities assigned to each executive at a financial firm — and helping staff understand the intent behind evolving compliance requirements so they can apply them on the job.

Until now, internal control information had been managed in a fragmented way across individual departments and staff, making it difficult to quickly locate and use when needed. Concerns had also been raised that effectiveness could suffer if critical information — such as regulatory amendments, major financial incidents and key sanctions cases — was not linked to accountability obligations.

At the heart of the new system is the consolidated management of key accountability information used within the accountability structure map framework. That information covers not only statutory obligations under external regulations, supervisory rules and best-practice guidelines, but also sanctions cases, official regulatory interpretations and financial incident cases that all executives and employees are expected to know.

"The core of this system lies in systematically managing and delivering critical internal control information in a timely manner," a BNK Financial Group official said. "We plan to expand integration with the accountability management system and internal rules management system, and will also explore incorporating AI features in stages, with the goal of developing a more convenient and efficient user-centered internal control platform."
