A tennis coach and former competitive player has been referred to prosecutors on charges of illegally distributing a secretly recorded intimate video of his then-partner.

According to police Saturday, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency referred the man, identified only as A, a male in his 30s, to prosecutors without detention in late May on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes — specifically for distributing illegally filmed material.

A is accused of secretly recording himself and his then-girlfriend, identified as B, during sexual encounters on multiple occasions between August 2024 and April last year, then sending the footage to a woman identified as C.

There are also indications that at least two additional victims beyond B may exist.

Police declined to refer A on the separate charge of illegal filming under the same law, citing insufficient evidence. B has since filed an objection with investigators, submitting additional evidence and requesting both a supplementary investigation and a probe into possible additional offenses.

C, who received and watched the video A shared, received a suspended indictment from prosecutors. C is the spouse of a YouTuber who was formerly a member of a well-known duo act and has been a longtime acquaintance of A.

C is reported to have exchanged messages with A discussing the bodies of A and B, and to have asked A for material featuring B.

C's side, however, has maintained that A sent the video without warning, saying C "was so flustered that stopping him didn't come to mind."
