Oh Moon-wan, honorary professor at University of Ulsan, tapped as committee chair; launch ceremony set for Tuesday
Ulsan Mayor-elect Kim Sang-uk has named Oh Moon-wan, an honorary professor of law at the University of Ulsan, as chair of the transition committee for the 9th elected-term Ulsan Metropolitan City administration, and aide Choi Hyeong-jun as vice chair.
The appointments signal a preference for a practical, hands-on committee over bringing in Kim Jong-hun, the former Progressive Party candidate for Ulsan mayor, who had been discussed in connection with the Democratic-Progressive alliance during the election.
Oh, an expert in labor law, will draw on his broad understanding of labor affairs and industrial policy to review the implementation direction of key policy tasks for the 9th elected-term administration and oversee the overall transition process.
Choi, a policy specialist who served as a senior aide in the National Assembly, handled policy and legislative work on major standing committees including the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee, the Political Affairs Committee, and the Public Administration and Security Committee. Having first worked with the mayor-elect as an aide during Kim's initial Assembly term, Choi has a deep grasp of Kim's governing philosophy and policy direction, and will coordinate and support the committee's operations and transition work.
Committee members and advisory members are to be appointed in stages through Saturday, following a qualification review that will include candidates recommended by the public.
The transition committee will hold its launch ceremony on Tuesday and, beginning with a briefing from the Planning and Coordination Office, will set the direction for the 9th elected-term administration's core priorities — guaranteeing citizens' mobility rights, advancing labor-respecting industrial AI transformation, and building a Northeast Asian energy logistics hub — through a comprehensive review of the city's budget and policies.
