Mexico, which has shown strong enthusiasm for Korean culture and football, closely followed Son Heung-min's every move on his day off.
Mexican outlet Fox Sports covered the South Korea national team's visit to a popular taco restaurant in Guadalajara on Sunday.
Son Heung-min was joined at the meal by Lee Jae-sung, Kim Seung-gyu, Song Bum-keun and Son's father, Son Woong-jung.
A Fox Sports reporter at the scene said Son had finished his meal there and predicted the restaurant would draw many fans in the days ahead.
Particular attention fell on the reaction of a staff member who served Son directly.
An employee named Alan said in an interview that it was "a truly unbelievable experience." He said he had been asked to stay as calm as possible so the players could eat comfortably. "Inside I was incredibly excited, but I tried not to show it," he said.
"Son Heung-min and the Korean players were genuinely polite and kind, which made it easy to serve them," Alan added. "At the end I even got their autographs, so it turned into a day I'll never forget."
Alan went through every taco Son had ordered before noting that the al pastor tacos were the first to disappear. "Watching him squeeze lime over everything made my mouth water," he said.
South Korea and Mexico meet in their Group A second-round match on June 19.
