From traditional arts to personal finance and shuffle dance — 'Learn Deeply, Experience Culture Broadly'; curriculum and class sections expanded to reflect second-quarter demand
The Nowon Culture Center in Seoul (director Oh Chi-jeong) is now accepting enrollment for its third-quarter 2026 Nowon Cultural University regular courses, offering district residents a rich array of lifelong learning and leisure opportunities.
Launching July 1, the third-quarter program comprises 62 courses across four categories: 35 general courses, 18 traditional arts courses, 5 children's courses and 4 evening courses. The center has significantly strengthened its curriculum by incorporating feedback from current students — adding advanced tracks for popular courses and expanding class sections.
Shuffle dance, which debuted in the second quarter to strong demand, now adds an intermediate class alongside the existing beginner class, allowing students to progress through a structured, step-by-step curriculum. A personal finance course by professor Kim Byeong-jin — which drew enthusiastic interest when offered as a free special lecture — has been formalized as a regular course titled "Practical Finance: Real Estate Auction Classroom." The course runs both a Monday daytime session and a Tuesday evening session, improving access for working residents who cannot attend during weekday business hours.
In addition, the billiards class taught by Kim Chang-hun, a referee and player with the Professional Billiards Federation, will continue as a regular offering with sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to meet strong resident demand. Other signature programs include "Healthy Singing Class" for active leisure among middle-aged and older adults, as well as "Gyeonggi Minyo" folk song and Korean traditional dance courses.
Meanwhile, a solid lineup of children's programs has been prepared to support healthy development. Courses including children's music jump rope, children's K-pop broadcast dance and children's samulnori — "Deonggi Deok Kung" — will be held in a comfortable and safe environment, rounding out an offering that spans all generations.
Registration opens June 15 at 10 a.m. and runs through July 3 at 5 p.m., on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications can be submitted online through the Nowon Culture Center website or in person via the self-service kiosk on the first floor of the center.
Paid members of the Nowon Culture Center receive a 10 percent discount on tuition. Nowon-gu residents aged 65 and older, national merit recipients, basic livelihood security recipients and registered persons with disabilities are eligible for a 20 percent discount upon verification of supporting documents.
