Three members of the Gwangjin-gu district office's public affairs division — media team leader Kim Hyeon-ja, promoted to Grade 5, Lee Ju-hee to Grade 6, and Cha Ji-in to Grade 8 — drew attention amid District Mayor Kim Gyeong-ho's emphasis on resident-centered communication
Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Gyeong-ho secured a landslide reelection victory in the June 3 local elections, and three staff members from the district office's public affairs division have drawn attention after being named to the latest promotion list.
The district office announced its promotion candidates Friday afternoon, covering two Grade 4 director-level positions and five Grade 5 administrative officer posts. Particularly notable was the inclusion of three public affairs division members on the same list.
Among the candidates, Kim Hyeon-ja, media team leader under the public affairs division headed by Director Kim Chu-ja, was selected for promotion to Grade 5. Lee Ju-hee was designated for Grade 6 and Cha Ji-in for Grade 8.
Inside and outside the district office, observers say the promotions reflect recognition of the public affairs division's contribution to communicating district administration — a result tied to District Mayor Kim's reelection success.
Kim is credited with earning residents' trust during his first term through efforts including pushing for higher floor-area ratios around Konkuk University Station, laying groundwork for local development, and pursuing lifestyle-focused administrative services. His reputation for upholding fairness and transparency in personnel decisions — and for acting on them swiftly — is also cited as a factor behind his election victory.
The public affairs division, led by Director Kim Chu-ja, has been praised for fostering teamwork and a systematic approach to its work, which boosted the effectiveness of district communications. The team is credited with making various policies and projects easy for residents to understand, as well as handling media relations in a way that enhanced the district's public image.
Kim Hyeon-ja, selected for promotion to Grade 5, has spent two years handling the demanding work of media relations with diligence. She is recognized for raising the division's communications capacity through smooth engagement with the press and active on-the-ground outreach.
"Team Leader Kim handled her work calmly and with a strong sense of responsibility, which earned her wide respect," district office staff said. "This promotion is a result that everyone can understand."
The district office's mood has been further lifted by the reelection, coming after the long-awaited move into the new building last year. Staff morale is rising sharply ahead of the launch of the ninth elected-term administration.
Meanwhile, among the other promotion candidates announced Friday, Lee Yeon-sik, head of the administrative support division, and Kim Hyeong-il, head of the health policy division, were selected for Grade 4 promotions. The Grade 5 list also includes Kim Mi-ok, a team leader in the audit division; Hwang Gyu-wan, a team leader in the administrative support division; and Jang Gwang-deok, a team leader in the family welfare division.
"We plan to continue strengthening the organization's capabilities based on fair and transparent personnel principles in the ninth elected term," a district office official said. "We expect the newly promoted staff to take on even greater roles in their new positions."
