Kinoton, a South Korean digital media and spatial solutions company, announced its future vision Friday to mark its 20th anniversary.

Founded in 2006 with a focus on cinema audio-visual system installation, Kinoton has since expanded into LED-based signage, immersive displays, large-scale outdoor advertising media and media art.

Building on two decades of growth, the company has set a new vision to become a "global digital media, spatial solutions and content company."

The plan calls for strengthening its existing business units while discovering, developing and owning content intellectual property — positioning Kinoton as an "IP holder" that oversees the entire pipeline from content production to distribution.

To that end, the company plans to deepen its work turning IP into content, drawing on its capabilities in digital media planning, design and production. Past projects include "Lightroom Seoul" in Seoul, "Le Space" at Inspire Entertainment Resort on Yeongjongdo, "Flashback Gyerim" in Gyeongju, and the "Wave" media art installation in Pattaya, Thailand.

In addition, Kinoton aims to advance to the role of "IP publisher" — overseeing the full process from content sourcing and design to construction, marketing and sales for commissioned projects. Current IP publisher work includes a full media build-out and content contract for Enford Hotel in Cheongju, with plans to expand media art projects to Haeundae in Busan and key districts in Seoul.

The company's longer-term strategy is to evolve into a full IP holder that develops and owns its own intellectual property. On top of its IP publisher business, Kinoton plans to scout and manage artists independently and develop exclusive IP in-house.

Alongside this phased growth strategy, Kinoton intends to push aggressively into overseas markets using K-content, leveraging its experience installing digital display and theater systems in the United Kingdom, Japan, India, the United Arab Emirates, Mongolia, Russia, China, Thailand and Taiwan.

"I take great pride in the fact that, starting from our first steps into the multiplex movie theater market in 2006, we have grown in 20 years into South Korea's largest comprehensive digital media and spatial solutions company," said Bae Yun-seong, chief executive of Kinoton. "Going forward, we will evolve into a global content company that pursues a 'spatial economy' — combining technological strength and soft power to cover content production and distribution from the position of an IP holder."

Meanwhile, Kinoton is pursuing an initial public offering with a target Kosdaq listing this year. The company has also accelerated internal restructuring, completing a corporate identity overhaul, a website rebuild and the establishment of a new digital marketing division to strengthen its communications and marketing operations.
