Appointments aimed at advancing M.AX rollout, industrial complex restructuring and tenant support

Korea Industrial Complex Corp. said June 14 it has appointed Park Sung-gil, head of its headquarters planning and coordination office, as the new head of its Industrial Complex AI and Energy Division; Park Jin-man, head of its South Jeolla Province regional office, as the new head of its Location Development Division; and Kong Sung-ho, a former senior official at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as the new head of its Corporate Growth Division.

The appointments are intended to strengthen the agency's drive on key initiatives, including the AI transformation of industrial complexes, location development and support for tenant companies. With three new executive directors in place, the agency plans to accelerate the spread of M.AX — its manufacturing AI transformation program — advance the broader overhaul of industrial complexes and bolster corporate growth support functions.

Park Sung-gil, the new head of the Industrial Complex AI and Energy Division, graduated from Samcheonpo High School in South Gyeongsang Province and Kyungnam University with a degree in business administration. He holds a master's degree in public economics from Sogang University and completed a doctoral program in science and technology policy at Dankook University. Park joined the agency in 1994 and has since served as head of the industrial complex promotion office, head of the South Gyeongsang Province regional office, head of the Incheon regional office and head of the planning and coordination office, building broad experience in industrial complex policy planning and field support.

In his new role, Park will lead efforts to develop industrial complexes into hubs for M.AX expansion, including building out M.AX infrastructure — private 5G networks, AI data centers and AX demonstration complexes — and fostering the surrounding ecosystem.

Park Jin-man, the new head of the Location Development Division, graduated from Sungil High School in Gwangju and Chonnam National University with a degree in public law. He holds a master's degree in policy and urban studies from Kyungpook National University and completed a doctoral program in knowledge-based technology convergence at Korea Polytechnic University. Park also joined the agency in 1994 and built his career in industrial complex location support, development and structural upgrading, serving as head of the structural upgrading project office, head of the location support office, head of the Gyeonggi Province regional office and head of the South Jeolla Province regional office.

In his new role, Park will oversee structural upgrading projects aimed at transforming industrial complexes. He will focus on expanding infrastructure, cultural facilities and welfare facilities, and reshaping complexes into creative and innovative spaces that attract talent and emerging industries.

Kong Sung-ho, the new head of the Corporate Growth Division, graduated from Seonggwang High School in Daegu and Yonsei University with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He holds a master's degree in metallurgical engineering from Yonsei University and an MBA from IMI Belgium. Kong previously served in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's New Southern Trade Division and Asia-Pacific Trade Division, as well as a commercial attaché at the South Korean embassy in Brazil, accumulating 29 years of policy experience in industry and trade.

Kong will work to rationalize regulations at industrial complex sites and promote investment to support industrial innovation and balanced regional growth. He will also focus on resolving site-specific challenges and strengthening tiered support for companies at different stages of growth, laying the groundwork for the sustainable development of tenant businesses.

"Through the appointment of new executives, we plan to accelerate our transition into an industrial innovation platform while advancing balanced regional growth — a core national policy priority — and building a manufacturing AI ecosystem, M.AX, within industrial complexes," the agency said.
