Cha Ga-won, chairman of Piarc Group and head of One Hundred Label, has apologized for failing to pay wages and pledged to complete all outstanding payments by June 17.
A video titled "[Full Episode] The Secret Behind MBC and Lee Seung-gi's Hannam-dong Jeonse Fraud" was published Thursday on the YouTube channel "Hyeon Dong-yeop's Highest Guard."
In a statement read at the start of the video, Cha said, "I am deeply sorry for the delay in paying the wages owed to you, and I bow my head in apology."
"I am ashamed that I could not keep even the most basic promise to those who trusted the company and worked hard alongside us," he said, and went on to say, "The company has been working to understand and resolve the internal situation, and as a result, we intend to pay the outstanding wages."
He added, "We will provide detailed guidance through the company's legal representative, law firm Hwageum, and make payment as quickly as possible. I sincerely apologize again and will see this through to the end."
Following the statement, a caption appeared in the video reading: "Regarding the unpaid salary and payment issues at One Hundred Label and its affiliates, the company is proceeding with payment arrangements through additional investment funding. Outstanding wages owed by BPM — Big Planet Made Entertainment, a label under One Hundred — are scheduled to be paid in full by June 17."
One Hundred Label and its affiliates drew controversy after failing to pay settlement fees to affiliated entertainers, employee wages, and fees to partner companies. After workers filed wage theft complaints, the Seoul Gangnam branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor launched a comprehensive wage theft investigation and inspection of One Hundred Label and two of its affiliates, beginning in May and proceeding sequentially.
Singer and actor Lee Seung-gi's camp has rebuffed claims made by Cha Ga-won, chairman of Piarc Group and head of One Hundred, with whom Lee is embroiled in a dispute over an exclusive contract and a jeonse deposit. "Return the 10.5 billion won jeonse deposit properly first," Lee's side said.
