Doctoral candidate Park Mi-ra recognized for originality, artistry and marketability
Park Mi-ra, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Food Service and Culinary Management at Honam University's graduate school (headed by Professor Kim Yeong-gyun), won the presidential award at the nation's most prestigious culinary competition.
Park competed at the 26th Korea Food Tourism Expo Korea International Culinary and Confectionery Competition, held June 6-7 at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. She presented a "K-catering traditional chanham," a traditional Korean multi-tiered food box showcasing yuzu, a signature specialty of the Goheung region.
Her entry was recognized for its originality, artistry and marketability, earning her the presidential award.
For the competition, Park drew on the Confucian concept of "inyuiyejishin" — the five cardinal virtues of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and integrity — weaving their philosophical meaning into Korea's traditional food culture.
