A man in his 30s has been sentenced to three years in prison for pushing his intoxicated girlfriend to the ground, causing her death.
The Daegu District Court's Criminal Division 11, presided over by Judge Lee Yeong-cheol, handed down the sentence Wednesday against the defendant, identified only as A, on charges of bodily injury resulting in death.
In the early hours of last December, A got into an argument with his girlfriend, then 30, in Jung-gu, Daegu, after she refused to go home while drunk. During the altercation, he shoved her to the ground.
The victim struck her head on the concrete pavement and was treated in a hospital intensive care unit for cerebral hemorrhage, but died five days later.
"The defendant bears heavy responsibility given the grave and irreversible outcome of the victim's death," the court said in its ruling. "The defendant has not been forgiven by the victim's bereaved family."
