Budget coffee franchises including The Venti, Paik's Coffee, Mega MGC Coffee and Compose Coffee are stepping up their overseas expansion, seeking new growth engines amid fierce competition among more than 100,000 coffee shops at home.

The Venti plans to open its first store in Las Vegas in the second half of this year, which would make it the fastest domestic budget coffee franchise to enter the US market, industry sources said Thursday. The chain currently operates eight stores across Canada, Vietnam and Jordan.

Paik's Coffee, operated by Daebong Korea, is reviewing its operating strategy with the goal of opening its first Japan store in the second half of this year. The company is also conducting market research and feasibility studies for entry into China and Taiwan, and is in discussions about a potential US launch. Paik's Coffee has grown its Philippine presence to 17 stores since opening its first Manila location in 2023. Its overseas royalty sales last year rose roughly 160 percent compared with 2023.

MGC Global, the operator of Mega MGC Coffee, aims to open five stores in Cambodia before the end of this year. The company signed an MOU with a local partner last year. It first entered overseas markets in 2024 by opening a store in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and established a Japanese subsidiary, Mega MGC Japan, last year.

Compose Coffee is preparing to enter Manila in the second half of this year and plans to open two additional stores in Taiwan. The chain opened its first overseas store in Singapore in 2023, added a second location there in 2024 and opened a third last year. It entered Taiwan in April.
