Daegu Mayor-elect Choo Kyung-ho said Wednesday he will establish an emergency economic operations center immediately upon taking office and personally chair weekly emergency economic policy meetings that will include outside economic experts.

Choo made the announcement after receiving briefings on the city's organizational structure, budget, pending issues and major projects. He said a close review of Daegu's current state showed that "multiple indicators are all sounding warning alarms at once, with red lights flashing."

He also signaled plans to expand the city's business attraction unit and to operate a provisional ordinance reform committee. The committee would analyze the city's full body of ordinances and minimize inconveniences to businesses and residents caused by unreasonable regulation.

Choo said he would open a public communication platform to gather citizens' views on policy proposals and ordinance revision needs, and actively incorporate that feedback into city administration.

Having wrapped up two days of briefings, Choo is set to travel across the city starting Thursday to listen to residents' concerns as part of a field-focused outreach effort.

"I ask that the public service community join us with one heart to make Daegu great and vibrant again, lifting it out of the swamp of stagnation," Choo said.
