Student organizations at universities across South Gyeongsang Province have issued a series of statements condemning a ballot shortage that emerged during the June 3 local elections and calling for a full investigation and measures to prevent a recurrence.

Student councils and governing bodies at Gyeongsang National University, Kyungnam University, Changwon National University, Inje University and Youngsan University have released statements in succession since June 5, demanding a thorough probe into election administration and accountability from the responsible authorities.

The Gyeongsang National University student council, in a statement posted on social media, called the incident "a violation of constitutional values" and urged authorities to investigate the election management process and overhaul the organization responsible.

The Kyungnam University student council said the shortage was "a matter that could impose real constraints on the exercise of suffrage — a fundamental right of citizens," and called for a comprehensive review of election operations and the establishment of preventive measures.

The Changwon National University central steering committee said the problem "cannot be dismissed as a simple administrative error," while the Inje University student council criticized the election management authorities for an inadequate response and urged accountability.

The Youngsan University student council went further, calling for an investigation not only into the management failures during the election but also into a separate controversy over the police response during efforts to contain the situation.

The student representative bodies argued that the incident strikes at the fundamental principles of democracy, and urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and put concrete preventive measures in place.
